Crossing Of Cultures In Cordoba

By Aaric Cabe at 2012-10-22 04:42:55
The Cordoba region in Spain is an area that is surprising to any visitor who tours the region. The way it presents itself in the present is as impressive as it did in the past. Cordoba was an important place in Europe especially in the 11th century. This is because the people of different religions and cultures lived quite peacefully in this region. They were the Christians, the Muslims and the Jews. Other people who lived in the region included artists, scientists and philosophers.

When you have the areas background in mind, you will definitely find some additional and interesting aspects in the area especially when you explore the monuments. The museums, the Moorish mosque and Mezquita are all wonders to behold.

The area is also very lively and Andalusian traditions are practiced here. They include bullfighting and flamenco. It is an attractive destination in the southern part of Spain and definitely an area worth touring.

There are some places in Cordoba that are perfect for sightseeing. The first place is the Cathedral and Great Mosque. These are some of the monuments that are so impressive in all of Spain and are definitely something to behold. The mosque is ranked as tied in the whole world basing on the size and area covered. It is also an original piece in Spain.

In areas surrounding Mezquita, there are several places to visit. The Archiepiscopal Lalais is one of those. In the interiors of this building, you will find a palace which is only the remains of the Goths which after became Alcazar Califal’s palace (Arabian Caliph). Later, it was changed into Medina Azahara but was again the king’s residence.

Puerta de Puente was a part of Arabian walls. The door was however modified in the Renaissance style. The roman bridge, Puente Romano is over the Guadalquivir River. It has 16 arcs and was a roman territory. At the very central part, there is San Rafael’s monument. He was a patron of the town back in the 17th century.

There are Moorish mills along the river. The pump most highlighted is Albolafia that would pump up water to Alcazar’s gardens. The Christian kings also had a palace in the area. The palace has amazing interiors which include a sarcophagus, roman mosaics and Arabian baths. These date back to the 3rd century. Three of the four towers are still intact to date. Walls for fortification, a monument of Ibn Hazm who was a poet and Seville’s door are still standing to date.

All this and more are the places and things to look forward to while visiting the region. You will have a great exploration time.
